American Pharoah has final prep

American Pharoah completed his final workout Sunday before the Kentucky Derby. The likely favorite for the 141st Derby galloped 5 furlongs in 58.62 seconds under Martin Garcia at Churchill Downs. Looking on was Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, who arrived from Southern California to supervise. The colt has been in Louisville since April 13 after winning the Arkansas Derby by 8 lengths. Baffert says American Pharoah handled his lone workout on the dirt strip well and he looks great. American Pharoah takes a four-race winning streak into the Derby. He's won those races by a combined 22 ¼ lengths, all under Victor Espinoza, who will be aboard in the Derby.

Rose rallies late

Justin Rose birdied the final two holes Sunday to win the Zurich Classic in Avondale, La. Rose, who entered the week ranked ninth in the world, completed a 7-under 65 in the rain-delayed third round and closed with a 66 at TPC Louisiana for his seventh PGA Tour title. The Englishman has won at least once in six consecutive seasons, the second-longest streak on the tour behind Dustin Johnson's eight consecutive. Playing aggressively on a soggy course, Rose made six birdies in the final round and played the last 66 holes without a bogey. He finished at 22-under 266. Rose's final two putts from 10 and 13 1/2 feet allowed him to hold off Cameron Tringale by a stroke. Bryce Molder (Conway) shot a 3-under 69 and finished in a tie for 33rd place at 13 under to win $38,895.

Joe Durant had a hole-in-one and teamed with Billy Andrade to win the Champions Tour's Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, Mo. Andrade and Durant closed with a 9-under 45 at the par-3 Top of the Rock course, playing nine holes of modified alternate shot and nine of better ball. Durant aced the third hole on the second nine, using a 7-iron on the 167-yard hole. Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam tied for second, three strokes back after a 51. Larry Nelson and Larry Fleisher won the Legends Division for players 65 and older, beating Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player by two strokes.

Indiana guard to return

Indiana guard and leading scorer Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell says he'll return for his senior season. Ferrell announced his decision not to enter the NBA Draft on Sunday. He was sixth in the Big Ten last season with 16.3 points per game and was fourth in assists at 4.9. The return of Ferrell, freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. and forward Troy Williams and the recent signing of 6-11 prep star Thomas Bryant gives the Hoosiers a solid core of players for next season.

• Memphis guard Mike Conley will not play tonight in Game 4 of the Grizzlies' playoff series with the Portland Trail Blazers because of a facial injury. The team said Sunday that Conley was returning to Memphis for additional evaluation. Conley left Saturday night's Game 3 in the third quarter after he appeared to be caught inadvertently by Portland guard CJ McCollum's elbow while going after the ball. Conley fell to his hands and knees and stayed there for several moments before team trainers guided him to the locker room with a towel to his face. TV cameras caught blood spots on the towel. The Grizzlies said he was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, but he did not stay the night. The Grizzlies withstood a Portland rally in the fourth quarter for a 115-109 victory to take a 3-0 series lead. Conley had 14 points before he was injured.
