The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has named a vice chancellor for regional programs.

Tim Hill will began in that role Saturday. Hill, who will earn $240,000 annually, has held the position on an interim basis since May, when Mark Mengel retired, according to a news release.

“Tim Hill has done an exceptional job in leading Regional Programs at UAMS during the transition,” UAMS Chancellor Dr. Dan Rahn said in a news release. “He has clearly demonstrated that he has the skills, knowledge and inclusive and transparent management style needed to provide excellent leadership of Regional Programs in the future.”

In the role, Hill will oversee the academic medical center’s eight regional centers in Batesville, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Helena, Jonesboro, Magnolia, Pine Bluff and Texarkana.

Policymakers working alongside UAMS started the regional programs in 1973 to help train medical residents and provide clinical care and other health services statewide, the news release states.

Hill, a Maumelle native, has more than three decades of health care finance and operational management experience in nonprofit and proprietary fields. He has earned awards and recognition during his career, including the 1996 Administrator of the Year from the Arkansas Hospital Association and the 2009 A. Allen Weintraub Memorial Award from the association.

He came to UAMS after a decade-long stint, ending in 2009, as the president and chief executive officer of the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison. At UAMS, he has led the Center for Rural Health and more recently, the Center for Healthcare Enhancement and Development.

UAMS officials have yet to name Hill’s successor at the Center for Healthcare Enhancement and Development.
