FAMILY FUN FEST

Centers for Youth, Families tees up golf park merriment

It's becoming an annual tradition -- good-intentioned adults from the Big Rock Mini Golf & Fun Park on Baseline Road and kids from the Centers for Youth and Families defy the bully heat and take in some fun in the sun (and a lot in the shade). The second Family Fun Fest went off at the park July 25 and was attended by U.S. Rep. French Hill (R-Ark.), who spoke glowingly of the oldest continuously operating nonprofit agency in the city, and disparagingly of his own putting ability.

Admission was free, but guests had to pay for the games and activities of their choice, which included putt-putt golf, face painting, bumper boats, go karts, laser tag, batting cages and an arcade.

The presenting sponsor for the afternoon was QualChoice Health Insurance.

Centers' new foundation executive director Chris Shenep said a portion of the proceeds went to the charity, which provides education, intervention and social and emotional treatment for youth and families.
