Driver killed in collision with train in Clay County

A 27-year-old Piggott man was killed Sunday when the vehicle he was driving was hit by a train in Clay County.

Arkansas State Police say it happened shortly after 3:15 p.m. at a railroad crossing on Lincoln Street west of U.S. 49 in Piggott.

According to a report, Aaron L. Beaver was driving a 1997 Ford east on the street when he tried to cross the tracks and was hit by the southbound train.

Beaver suffered fatal injuries. No one else was hurt.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The death was the 315th in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year and one of three reported Sunday, according to preliminary figures.
