Parole approved for ex-SAU student in horse-theft case

The Arkansas Parole Board approved parole Thursday for a former student convicted last year of charges related to the theft of horses from an in-state public university.

Jaci Rae Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction last year before a judge in Columbia County Circuit Court after a horse-theft case at Southern Arkansas University in November 2011.

The charges originated from the theft of five horses, a trailer and tack from SAU's rodeo team. Four of the horses were found later in Oklahoma, and the remains of the fifth horse were recovered.

Jackson was convicted of two counts of criminal conspiracy related to the theft.

According to a parole board statement, she will be released at a future date "if she has obtained an approved residence plan and completed a course in thinking errors."

Upon release, the parole board said Jackson will additionally be subject to conditions such as supervision, community service, a curfew and random drug testing.
