MovieStyle: The Assassins of August

Based on a video game, Hitman: Agent 47 is a movie about an elite assassin genetically engineered to be a perfect killing machine.

Meanwhile, in American Ultra, Mike (Jesse Eisenberg) only seems to be a comic-drawing stoner with seemingly little ambition beyond marrying his lovely girlfriend (Kristin Stewart) and hanging out in his small town. He’s actually a highly trained sleeper cell agent.

Are either of these films any good? Well, just look at the calendar — or read the reviews in this week’s MovieStyle by our Dan Lybarger and Piers Marchant, respectively.

Not everything this week is blood and balletic violence, however. Our Philip Martin reviews The End of the Tour, a two-handed road movie that documents an interview Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky (Eisenberg, again) had with literary It boy David Foster Wallace (Jason Segal) back in 1996. Martin also talked with the real-life Lipsky for his OnFilm column.

Martin also reviews similarly drawn-from-life The Stanford Prison Project, while Lybarger interviews its director, Kyle Patrick Alvarex.

There also Sinister 2 slithering into theaters and Karen Martin’s weekly take on home video releases.
