Welcome back

Twenty years. Hard as it is to believe, it has been 20 years since the Urban League closed its doors in Arkansas. A lack of funding and some controversy put the outfit on unsteady footing back in the late 1980s and early 1990s--and eventually put it out of Arkansas.

That ended last week. The Urban League is back, with a ceremony late last week making it official.

What's even better news is this: Sherman Tate, a man of character and integrity, is the chairman of the League's board. Some of us find that as encouraging as any other part of this news. (By the way, kudos to the governor for welcoming the League back to the state. Though it's never surprising to see Asa Hutchinson doing the right thing.)

The Urban League is going to open an office in Little Rock, and something of a satellite office in Springdale. Next on the agenda: finding an executive director.

Welcome back, Urban League.

Welcome home.
