Driver killed when car runs off road in Baxter County

A 22-year-old driver was killed early Wednesday when his car veered off a Baxter County road, authorities said.

It happened about 1:30 a.m. on Cannie Baker Road near Windy Drive just outside Mountain Home.

The Baxter County sheriff's office said Charles James Tomlinson was driving a 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood northwest on the road when it went out of control as he tried to turn.

The agency said in a statement that the Cadillac that hit a sign, a culvert and a large tree.

Tomlinson died at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle.

The death is at least the 333rd in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
