Former Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett (Arkansas Razorbacks) has played in 13 NFL games in his career and completed 120 of 226 passes for 1,187 yards and 5 touchdowns with 7 interceptions.

ESPN first reported the Ravens have signed Mallett, who was released by the Houston Texans earlier this season.

Baltimore will be the third NFL stop for Mallett, a third-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in 2011 after his redshirt junior season with the Razorbacks.

The Ravens worked out Mallett Dec. 2 according to the Baltimore Sun, but weren't ready to sign him at that time.

Cincinnati, which lost starting quarterback Andy Dalton to a thumb injury, was showing interest in Mallett, according to media reports, which may have hastened the Ravens' decision to sign Mallett.

Baltimore Coach John Harbaugh told reporters Monday he couldn't confirm whether the team had signed Mallett, but he said Mallett had a good workout with the team earlier this month.

"He had some personal things that he had to work through," Harbaugh said. "If it [the signing] happens in the near future, that would be great. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. But that's not something I've been told that we've done to date."

The Ravens lost starting quarterback Joe Flacco to a season-ending knee injury Nov. 22. Matt Schaub started two games as Flacco's replacement, but he suffered chest and shoulder injuries that caused him to be put on the inactive list for last Sunday's game against Seattle.

Jimmy Clausen was Baltimore's starting quarterback against Seattle, which beat the Ravens 35-6. Clausen completed 23 of 40 passes for 274 yards with an interception.

Mallett, 27, started four games for Houston this season before being released Oct. 27, three days he missed the Texans' team charter to Miami and had to fly commercially to be at the game.

Mallett said after the game he missed the charter because he was caught in traffic.

It was the second misstep by Mallett with the Texans. He also missed practice the day after it was announced Brian Hoyer had beaten him out for the starting job. Mallett said he missed practice because he overslept.

Mallett completed 78 of 147 passes for 770 yards and 3 touchdowns with 4 interceptions with the Texans this season. He has played in 13 NFL games in his career and completed 120 of 226 passes for 1,187 yards and 5 touchdowns with 7 interceptions.

The Houston Chronicle reported that after Mallett was released by Houston, he received $1.47 million as part of a termination pay agreement. The termination payment was in addition to $1.029 million Mallett had received in salary and $437,500 in active roster bonuses.
