Being able to spend 48 hours in Fayetteville for an official visit over the weekend allowed tight end commitment Grayson Gunter to experience a little bit more of what Arkansas has to offer.

“This is my first time really spending a lot of time here and seeing everything and it was overall a great experience,” Gunter said. “I thought the Jones Center was very impressive and they showed me all around the living quarters and just showed me a lot of love and it was just very first class.”

Gunter, who attends Madison, (Miss.) Central, was hosted by freshman tight end Austin Cantrell. He said the time spent with the team was the highlight of the trip.

“I think just getting to be around the guys on the team and asking them questions and just getting to know your future teammates and how stuff works around here,” Gunter said. “That was exciting.”

He recorded 27 receptions for 386 yards and 5 touchdowns despite missing several games this season with a torn labrum.

“I am about month-and-a-half out of surgery and two weeks into rehab,” Gunter said. “It is coming along good and I am rehabbing every day and it is coming back slowly.”

Gunter, 6-5, 218 pounds was timed at 4.58 seconds in the 40 yard dash at an Arkansas camp in June. Shortly after attending the camp, he committed to the Hogs over about 12 other offers, including Mississippi State, Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic, Tulane, Louisiana Tech and Memphis.

He was able to catch Saturday’s practice.

“They really like the tight ends and that is a big part of why I committed here and that just reinforced that,” Gunter said. “Just watching them use the tight ends and Hunter (Henry) winning the Mackey Award just shows they produce great tight ends.”

His father, Bubba graduated in 1987 from Briarcrest Christian in the Memphis area and lettered for Ole Miss in 1988-1989 as a linebacker for Ole Miss. He considered the Hogs and took an official visit to Fayetteville before picking the Rebels.

A late push from Ole Miss won't change his mind.

“My recruitment has been over for awhile now, every since I committed,” Gunter said. “This weekend just even reinforced that more in just being around everyone. I know without a doubt this is where I want to be.”
