Police called to large fight at Park Plaza Mall in Little Rock

No injuries were reported in a fight that prompted a large police response Saturday night at Park Plaza Mall, authorities said.

There was conflicting information about arrests. A spokesman for the Little Rock Police Department said two people were held but referred questions about the arrests to the Pulaski County sheriff's office. A spokesman for the sheriff's office said he could confirm only one arrest at the mall and said it was not directly related to the fight.

Little Rock police Lt. Steve McClanahan said deputies with the sheriff's office were working off-duty at the mall when the fight developed about 8 p.m. The altercation was believed to be among juveniles.

The county agency called in support from the city police, McClanahan said. The specifics of the incident weren't known at that point beyond that assistance had been requested, so a large number of officers responded, McClanahan said. He said the fight was actually "handled rather quickly" and that no one was hurt.

McClanahan said the mall was never on lockdown, though juveniles in the food court near the altercation were asked to leave and the mall was close to shutting down for the night anyway.
