Little Rock's 94.9 FM rebrands to '70s, '80s music

Little Rock's KHKN radio station, 94.9 FM, announced a rebranding Monday and began playing exclusively greatest hits music from the 1970s and '80s.

The station, run by iHeartMedia Little Rock, announced in a news release Monday that it had changed its name from "94.9 Tom FM" to "Big 94.9 Little Rock's Greatest Hits."

The former variety station began playing Christmas music on Nov. 1 under the "Christmas 94.9" moniker, according to the website radioinsight.com.

The station developed the rebranding during the two-month switch to a Christmas music format, said KHKN's Senior Vice President of Programming Chad Heritage in the release.

"Our name change better reflects the music we play," Heritage said.

Social media pages for the former station brand had been taken down Monday.

According to Nielson ratings for the Little Rock market released in October, KHKN came in at No. 10 out of 13 stations with a 3.3 percent market share.
