2 jailers charged in inmate battery

Two Clark County jail employees were arrested and charged in the battery of an inmate on Friday, police say.

William Sayre, 25, of Nashville and Robert Williams, 28, of Arkadelphia, were charged with second-degree battery for beating an inmate sometime near Feb. 9, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said in an email.

Sayre and Williams were arrested after Clark County Prosecuting Attorney Blake Batson requested an investigation be started into the battery of the inmate, Sadler said.

The two men are being held at the Clark County jail, a Clark County sheriff's office official said.

The investigation is ongoing, the email states.
