Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson received the oral commitment of highly regarded power forward Ted Kapita on Thursday.

Kapita is ranked as the N0. 8 power forward and the No. 40 overall prospect by ESPN. The commitment gives Anderson and his basketball staff two prospects rated among ESPN’s top 100. Guard Jimmy Whitt of Columbia (Mo.) Hickman is rated No. 72 by ESPN and signed with Arkansas in November.

Kapita, 6-9, 222 pounds, plays for Huntington Prep in West Virginia after moving to the United States in 2011 from Kinshasa, Congo. He played his junior year at Florida Air Academy in Melbourne before transferring to Huntington.

Kapita took an official visit to Fayetteville on Oct. 24-26 and was hosted by Bobby Portis, Trey Thompson and Moses Kingsley.

“They got invited to the LeBron camp last summer,” Kapita said after his visit.“I know most of them. They are good people. I enjoy spending time with them”

Kapita chose Arkansas over West Virginia, Memphis, Oregon and Missouri.

Rebounding is a big part of Kapita’s game.

“I try to get those rebounds so it will help my team get more chances to score on offense,” Kapita said after after his official visit.

Kapita, who has been injured much of the season, averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds at Florida Air Academy. He is expected to sign with Arkansas during the spring signing period that starts April 15.
