Siloam Springs woman arrested on drug, endangering charges

A Siloam Springs woman who admitted she smoked methamphetamine and marijuana with the parents of a baby who was found dead Jan. 25 now faces charges.

Shay-Leigh Hitchcock, 21, was arrested in connection with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Siloam Springs police arrested Austin Moss, 21, and Jennifer Moss, 19, of Gentry in connection with the death of their 6-month-old son. The couple had been staying with Hitchcock.

An investigation began Jan. 25 after firefighters and police were called to 300 Meadow Court No. 8 in Siloam Springs for a report of a baby who had no pulse and wasn't breathing. Attempts to save the child failed.

The baby's body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy. Preliminary results indicate the cause of death was asphyxia due to co-sleeping, according to court documents.

Austin Moss told police he woke Jan. 25 and found his son under him, according to court documents. He told police the boy was blue and wasn't breathing.

Austin Moss told police he began to smoke methamphetamine Jan. 24 and didn't go to sleep until late that night. Moss said he and his wife later smoked marijuana.

Jennifer Moss also told police she smoked methamphetamine and marijuana.

Police searched the home and found two glass pipes believed to be used to smoke methamphetamine and digital scales. The scales tested positive for methamphetamine, according the probable cause affidavit.

Hitchcock, who is pregnant, admitted to smoking methamphetamine and marijuana in the apartment with the Mosses on Jan. 24, according to the affidavit. The endangering charge relates to the Moss's baby, not her own, records show

Hitchcock was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.

Austin Moss and Jennifer Moss remain in the Benton County Jail on $100,000 bonds.

Prosecutors haven't filed formal charges against the Mosses or Hitchcock.
