Kaepernick's Twitter post hits its target

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick found himself playing a little defense after an exchange with a fan Wednesday on Twitter.

The exchange started innocently enough, with Kaepernick posting his activities for the day.

"1000 abs... arm workout..... 10 min straight on the jump rope.... 2 hour study session in February..... that's what we call a recovery day!" Kaepernick posted.

Then came a comment from fan Stephen Batten, who clearly was not happy with Kaepernick's recent play.

"ab workout won't help find open receiver #study," Batten posted.

Kaepernick wasn't about to let that go.

"are you illiterate or just ignorant?" Kaepernick replied. "Read the tweet again better yet give me your breakdown of every defensive coverage.

"I want every players responsibility on every coverage if you can't do it mind your business clown!

"you got 8 followers bruh your own family don't even want to know what you doin! Get better at life!"

While Kaepernick's assertion of Batten's follower count at the time of his comment could not be confirmed, as of Thursday afternoon, Batten's comment was removed from his timeline and he had nearly 2,800 followers.

"So what's the lesson learned here?" John Breech of CBSSports.com asked. "Well, there are several.

"For Kaepernick: 1. Don't do ab workouts on Wednesdays.

"Actually, there's no lesson to be learned here for Kaepernick. I like the way he handled it."

No more A-Rod

To say Juliet Macur of the New York Times is fed up with New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez may be a bit of an understatement, based on what she wrote Wednesday.

"Hasn't everyone had enough of Alex Rodriguez by now?" Macur wrote. "Enough of the lies and the apologies, and then the lies again, and the apologies again?

"In the latest round of mea culpas -- a handwritten letter released Tuesday -- Rodriguez tried to sound contrite as he said he just wanted to play again and 'help us win.'

"Wait -- what? Help 'us' win?

"The New York Yankees should have read that line and blushed.

"Not good, Yankees. Rodriguez thinks you are in this together, a band of like-minded brothers chasing the same goal. He wants to pretend that he's been a loyal Yankee all along, an heir to Ruth and Gehrig and DiMaggio and Mantle, even when he was popping testosterone lozenges as he was pulling on pinstripes.

"The release of the letter should have been the moment when the Yankees realized this relationship was over. It should have been the moment when the Yankees finally turned their collective back on Rodriguez and his warm and fuzzy (and very distorted) version of 'us.' Because in truth, their relationship is too damaged to last another season, much less three more years."

Calling an audible

Baltimore Ravens running back Justin Forsett, who had planned to take his expectant wife to a Lauryn Hill concert on Valentine's Day, wound up dashing to the hospital instead for the arrival of his second son.

"I thought I was going to have to deliver the baby myself in the car on the way to the birthing center," Forsett wrote on Instagram. "It happened so fast."

"Good thing he's well-versed in the hurry-up drill," Dwight Perry of The Seattle Times quipped.
