Daley's 36 finishes off Mayflower

BENTON -- Hunter Daley made 9 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with 36 points Friday to lift Jessieville to a 70-61 victory over Mayflower in the 3A-5 Tournament at Daniel Henley Fieldhouse.

"He's had 38, 40 and 39 this year -- big games," Jessieville Coach Eddie Lamb said. "He stepped up and played, and so did the rest of the guys. We ended well. We got down at half and found a way to fight back. We stayed firm and held together."

Jessieville (21-7) trailed 39-32 at halftime, but back-to-back three-pointers by Daley late in the third quarter tied the game at 48. Mayflower (16-9) took a four-point lead, but two more three-pointers by Daley -- who made seven in the game -- put Jessieville in front, 56-54.

Free throws by Hayden Long and J.P. Perry allowed Mayflower to tie the game at 58 with three minutes to play, but Daley started hitting free throws and eventually pushed Jessieville's lead to nine points.

"It looked like it was their game, but we turned it around," Lamb said. "I knew we were close, but Mayflower shot it so well in the first half."

Daley's three-pointer to end the first quarter gave Jesssieville a 17-16 lead, but Perry, Drew Duncan and Long made three-pointers to spark a 23-12 run that gave Mayflower a 36-26 lead in the second quarter.
