Winter weather advisory in effect for much of Arkansas

A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of central and southern Arkansas, where forecasters say periods of sleet and snow are likely.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock says light rain is expected to develop late Sunday and could possibly be mixed with sleet at times across northern Arkansas. Rainfall will turn into a rain and sleet mix before ending as snow.

Forecasters say up to two inches of sleet and snow is possible with the highest amounts over west central Arkansas. Up to three inches of winter precipitation could accumulate in the Ouachita Mountains in far western Arkansas.

The winter weather advisory goes into effect at 3 p.m. Sunday and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Monday. Roads, bridges and overpasses will likely be slippery.
