Haskell man charged in Benton shooting

A Haskell man was arrested Friday in connection with a Benton shooting last week, police say.

Josh Tiner, 26, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons, Benton Police Department spokesman Lt. Kevin Russell said in a news release.

About 9:14 a.m. on Feb. 16, officers responded to 611 N. Summit Road in Benton after receiving report of a “possible accidental shooting,” according to the release.

When police arrived, they found Tiner with visible, non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his abdomen and buttocks area.

Tiner and another individual were handling a pistol that belonged to Tiner, which they believed to be unloaded, before it discharged and struck him.

An investigation is ongoing and addition charges could be forthcoming, police say.
