AARP partnered with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to develop the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists (CAPS) program, which trains architects, home builders, designers, remodelers and related professionals how to design and build attractive, barrier-free living spaces.
According to the AARP website, these specialists:
• Have been trained to meet the housing needs of the age 50 and over population.
• Can identify and/or make home modifications or changes to help people live independently in their homes at later ages.
• Can find ways to eliminate common obstacles that make houses unsafe or uncomfortable.
