Flash flood watch issued for southern Arkansas

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for portions of southern Arkansas.

Forecasters say areas of showers and embedded thunderstorms, some containing locally heavy rainfall, continue to spread east across southern Arkansas. Up to 2 inches of additional rainfall could fall over the area through Saturday afternoon.

The region has already recorded 3 to almost 5 inches of rain in the last week, and additional heavy rainfall over saturated soils will result in rapid water runoff and the filling of small creeks, streams, rivers and low water crossings.

A flash flood watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. The flash flood watch is scheduled to expire at 4 p.m.
