SPRINGDALE -- Paige Redmond finished what Bailey Schalk started for Springdale Har-Ber.

The seniors were the bookends in a 51-49 victory for Har-Ber over Springdale High Tuesday in 7A-West Conference play at Wildcat Arena. Schalk got Har-Ber off to a good start by scoring 11 of her 15 points in the first quarter. Redmond also had 15 points and hit three of four free throws in the final two minutes to help the Lady Wildcats (12-3, 2-0) hold on.

"They were the bookends to tonight's chapter," Har-Ber coach Sandy Wright said of her senior leaders. "Everybody contributed but they were the workhorses who got it done."

Springdale had a chance to win after trailing 51-46 with 24.8 seconds remaining. Javonda Daniels hit a 3-pointer at the top of the key then the Lady Bulldogs used their pressure defense in the back court to force a jump ball. The possession arrow favored Springdale, which in-bounded the ball with 6.9 seconds left. Desiree Mack had an open shot at the top of the key, but the ball bounced away to give Har-Ber the win.

"If that shot goes down, we're having a different conversion," Springdale coach Heather Hunsucker said. "Our kids play to the final buzzer blows and I was real proud of our execution down the stretch."

Chasidee Owens finished with 13 points and Daniels 12 for the Lady Bulldogs (10-5, 1-1), who trailed 23-14 after one quarter. Mack and Ryann Goodsell each contributed eight points for Springdale.

Schalk scored 11 points in the first quarter, including a three-point play to put the Lady Wildcats ahead 21-14. But Springdale used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to cut its deficit to 28-26. Daniels hit a 3-pointer to briefly put Springdale ahead before Redmond hit a driving layup at the buzzer to give Har-Ber a 34-33 lead at the half.

BOYS

Tereke Eckwood scored 15 points to lead Har-Ber past his former team.

Mason Cline and Mason McNee each had 12 points for Har-Ber (12-3, 2-0), which trailed for most of the game. Chris Owens scored 14 points for Springdale (6-8, 1-1), but missed a 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds left that would have tied the game. TreShawn Gause led the Bulldogs with 16.

Both teams missed chances down the stretch. Eckwood and Mason McNee each missed two free throws while Tyler Tutt and Kylar Mahar missed three 3-pointers in the final minute.
