Fire destroys large building in downtown Forrest City

A fire has destroyed a large building that housed four commercial tenants in downtown Forrest City, authorities said.

Forrest City Fire Department Assistant Chief Anthony Renigar said crews were called about 10:40 a.m. to the single-story structure on Washington Street at Garland Avenue in the middle of downtown.

Crews were still actively fighting the fire after 1 p.m., Renigar said, adding the structure was considered a loss.

"This is a pretty good-sized building," he said. "We'll be there some time into the night."

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire wasn't yet known.

Renigar said the building had been divided into four separate businesses: a hair salon, a nail salon, a flower shop and an office for a construction firm.
