RockHounds jump on Travelers early

The Arkansas Travelers committed three errors Friday night in a 6-2 loss to the Midland RockHounds at Security Bank Ballpark in Midland, Texas.

Renato Nunez led the RockHounds, going 2 for 5 with a two-run home run.

Midland took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Chad Oberacker and Colin Walsh each reached on singles to lead off the inning and both came home on Josh Whitaker's two-run double. Whitaker advanced to third on a throwing error by shortstop Eric Stamets on the play and scored two batters later on Chad Pinder's RBI single to make it 3-0.

The RockHounds scored three times in the third for a 6-0 lead. Nunez hit his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot off Travs starter Kyle McGowin. Nick Rickles' run-scoring single scored Ryon Healy later in the inning.

Brian Hernandez's RBI single in the top of the fourth inning scored Drew Maggi, pulling Arkansas to within 6-1. The Travs added their final run in the top of the ninth when Hernandez came home on Michael Snyder's groundout.

McGowin (4-7) allowed 6 runs, 5 earned, on 10 hits in 5 innings, striking out 2 and walking 3.

Midland's Dillon Overton (1-0) pitched 5 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1.

Hernandez and Maggi each had two hits to lead the Travs.

ROUGHRIDERS 9, NATURALS 6

The Frisco RoughRiders scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and went on to beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.

Northwest Arkansas led 4-3 going into the bottom of the eighth, but the Naturals' bullpen couldn't hold the lead.

Luis Marte led off the eighth with a single off Naturals reliever Malcom Culver and stole second base. After Ryan Cordell struck out out, Nomar Mazara and Alex Burg both walked to load the bases for Drew Robinson, who tied the game with a single to center field.

Culver (2-3) was replaced by Benino Pruneda, who uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Mazara to score, giving Frisco a 5-4 lead. Pruneda intentionally walked Preston Beck and gave up a two-run single to Luis Mendez that extended the RoughRiders lead to 7-4. Nick Williams added a two-run single later in the inning to cap Frisco's six-run outburst.

The Naturals cut the lead to 9-6 in the top of the ninth inning on Hunter Dozier's two-run home run, but Bubba Starling struck out to end the game.

Dozier and Balbino Fuenmayor each had two hits for Northwest Arkansas, which was outhit 11-10.

Edwar Cabrera (1-1) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory for Frisco.
