Temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s and humidity that will make it feel even hotter have again prompted the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for much of the state.

The agency said most of Arkansas would remain under the advisory through Thursday night because the heat index — the measure of how the air feels when the humidity is factored in — could exceed 105 in the afternoon and early evening.

The advisory covers all but parts of north and Northwest Arkansas, where the temperature highs Wednesday are expected to top out in the low 90s.

The weather service advises people dealing with such hot weather to keep hydrated, stay in air conditioning and out of the sun as possible and check on friends, relatives and pets.

In addition to the high heat, scattered thunderstorms will also be possible across the state during the afternoon, the weather service said.

"While widespread severe weather is not expected, any storm that develops could produce damaging winds," the agency noted.
