Shortstop gives Drillers all the offense they need

Texas League

Tulsa shortstop Erisel Arruebarrena made the Arkansas Travelers pay for their mistakes Friday night in the Drillers' 2-1 victory in front of an announced crowd of 8,135 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

Arruebarrena hit a home run in the second inning to drive in the Drillers' first run and reached on an error in the third inning that allowed another to scored as the Tulsa took a 2-0 lead and held on from there.

Arruebarrena drilled a 2-1 pitch from Travelers starter Alex Wood over the left-center wall for the first run of the game and reached base again in the third inning when Travs third baseman Drew Maggi's fielding error allowed Lars Anderson to score from third base.

The Travs' lone run came in the seventh inning when Eric Stamets hit a home run to left on a 1-0 pitch from Chris Anderson. It was one of only four hits in the game for the Travs, who left two men on base and never advanced a runner into scoring position.

Anderson (9-5) turned in a complete-game victory, allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk on 104 pitches.

Wood (6-3) lasted 4 innings for the Travs, giving up 2 runs -- 1 earned -- on 3 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Austin Adams and Ed Santos finished the game for the Travelers.

NATURALS 4, CARDINALS 2

Lane Adams' two-run double in the sixth inning sparked Northwest Arkansas' victory over Springfield in front of an announced crowd of 6,174 at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.

Adams, who went 4 for 4 with 3 RBI, doubled down the left-field line to score Jorge Bonifacio and Hunter Dozier to give the Naturals a 2-1 lead. Zane Evans followed with an infield single to third which allowed Adams to score.

Adams delivered again in the eighth with another two-out double that drive in Dozier, who walked and stole second with two out.

Springfield scored its first run in the fourth inning when Patrick Wisdom tripled to right-center field and scored on Bruce Caldwell's single to right. The Cardinals added their final run in the ninth when Mike Ohlman singled to right to score Wisdom.

Christian Binford (3-4) allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 6 innings with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the victory.

Corey Baker (2-4) took the loss, allowing 3 runs -- 2 earned -- in 2 2/3 innings in relief of Marco Gonzalez, who was on a rehabilitation assignment after suffering a pectoral injury earlier this year. Gonzalez had two strikeouts in three scoreless innings.
