Loblolly Creamery dishes frozen treats for Thea event

What goes well with charity? Ice cream. The former just makes us feel good, and the latter ... also just makes us feel good. Staff at the Thea Foundation know this and for the second time hosted an Ice Cream Happy Hour at The Green Corner Store in the SoMa neighborhood of the Quapaw Quarter.

A fundraiser?

Oh, this is more like a fun-raiser, though a percentage of sales from the soda fountain did go to the charity.

Perhaps a hundred or more people visited the little store, including current board members Nancy Steenburgen and Joe Griffith and former member Claire Haun to enjoy the fresh phosphates (soda) and Loblolly Creamery ice cream. Sally Mengel, proprietor of the ice cream business, put out a special flavor -- blueberry pie! -- for the occasion.

Actually, the ice cream -- made with real blueberries and sprinkled with chunks of sweet crust -- is the creamery's flavor of the month for Thea. Throughout July, 10 percent of all sales go into the foundation's coffers.
