A front bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to most of Arkansas will stall across the area Tuesday, forecasters said.
“While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, any thunderstorm could produce strong winds, some small hail and locally heavy rainfall,” the National Weather Service said in a statement.
The front will remain across Arkansas through Thursday, but the best chances of precipitation will come this afternoon and evening, forecasters said.
Meanwhile, a heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for far south and southeast Arkansas, where temperatures will peak between 96 degrees and 99 degrees Fahrenheit and heat indexes, which factor in the effect of humidity, will peak from 105 degrees to 110 degrees in the afternoon, the weather service said.
Despite the storms across the state, conditions will continue to feel “quite warm,” especially late this week and over the weekend, and heat-index values of above 100 degrees will return as upper-level high pressure remains, the weather service said.
