NOTEWORTHY Born Feb. 14, 1997. … Daughter of Larry and Tina Lawellin. … Scored a 29 on the ACT. … Batted .533 her senior year and had a .604 on-base percentage. She batted .584 her junior year.

“I’m a very passionate person, like my mom, and I want to help people,” Lawellin said. “But I’m also very level-headed, like my dad. I think I got the best of both worlds from them.”

Lawellin also gave her best to Southside Batesville’s softball team. The Southerners’ second baseman was a three-year member of the all-Arkansas team. During her senior season, Lawellin batted .533 with 11 doubles, 5 triples and 2 home runs. She struck out only two times in 107 trips to the plate.

During last month’s Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star softball games, Lawellin went 3 for 4 with a double and two singles and was named the East’s most outstanding player. She will play softball for Harding University.

“To me, it was a big deal,” Lawellin said when asked if playing at the next level was important to her. “Softball has been a big part of my life since I was 8 years old. I think I might have gone crazy if this year’s high school season would have been my last.”

While softball was important to her, Lawellin did not slide when it came to her grades. Her hard work in the classroom paid off with valedictorian honors.

“I think I’m most proud of that than anything else,” Lawellin said. “That was four years of hard work, but it was more than worth it to go the extra mile.”
