Man confessed fatal NLR shooting, report says

A suspect held in the fatal shooting of a man Sunday in North Little Rock admitted to the killing, saying he shot the victim after he was "talking about him and his friend," according to a police report.

Christopher Maines, 45, is charged with capital murder in the killing of 24-year-old Corey Derscheid, a North Little Rock resident who died at 2 Walter Place after being shot about 2:10 p.m.

Maines was identified as the suspected shooter and arrested in Beebe. He was then taken back to North Little Rock and interviewed by investigators.

According to a North Little Rock police report, Maines "said that the victim was talking about him and his friend" and that he then went to his car, retrieved a handgun and loaded it.

"Maines said that he then walked into the house and shot the victim one time in the head," the report said. "Maines said that he then walked out of the residence and got into his car and his wife Peggy drove him away."

Maines remained in the Pulaski County jail Monday morning with bail not yet set. He is due in court Tuesday morning.
