Body of man lost in Red River floodwaters is found

ASHDOWN — Arkansas authorities have found the body of a man who was lost in the Red River floodwaters after the boat he was on sunk.

Little River County Sheriff Gary Gregory told the Texarkana Gazette that the body of 28-year-old Dugan Ward was recovered Sunday. He was found in about 8 to 12 feet of water less than a mile away from where his parents were rescued May 28.

Authorities say Ward was with his parents, who went to check on their water-covered pasture. After their boat sank, the group was escaping to higher ground when Ward was lost in the floodwaters while trying to retrieve the family's dog.

At least 39 people died in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas in May storms that flooded several rivers.

Go. Asa Hutchinson announced Monday afternoon that he will survey flood damage Tuesday morning in Little River and Miller counties. He will stop in Ogden at 9 a.m., Garland City at 9:45 a.m. and host a news conference at 10:15 a.m. at the foot of the U.S. 82 bridge on the Miller County side in Garland City.
