2 people shot to death near Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Two people are dead after what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide near Columbia in mid-Missouri.

A spokesman for the Boone County Sheriff's Department told the Columbia Daily Tribune that a 66-year man fatally shot his son-in-law before taking his own life. Names of both men have not been released.

Deputies were called to a home east of Columbia about 8:30 a.m. Monday. The body of the younger man was in the house, and the older man's body was in the backyard. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The younger man's children, ages 1 and 3, were in the home but unharmed.
