Swifton man sentenced in domestic battery case

A Swifton man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction after pleading guilty to first-degree attempted domestic battery against his girlfriend, the Jackson County sheriff's office said Thursday.

Eric Kyle Nicholson, 42, was also given a suspended five-year sentence for terroristic threatening and attempted first-degree domestic battery in Jackson County Circuit Court in Newport, Jackson County sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Ricky Morales said in a news release.

Nicholson was charged after his girlfriend Nicole Cleveland of Swifton told deputies he took her to a remote area in Jackson County on Oct. 20, 2014, and "told [Cleveland] he was going to kill her," Morales said.

Cleveland said Nicholson "zip-tied her hands behind her back, poured gasoline on her, and then started putting out lit cigarettes on her shoulder," the release states.
