I-40 lane closures to begin Monday

Erecting structural steel for the Norman Road and Marche Road bridges on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock will require overnight lane closures on the interstate for five days beginning Monday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

The work will require alternating closures of the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-40 from just east of Morgan to Crystal Hill Road between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily through Friday. There will be short, intermittent stoppages of eastbound and westbound traffic while work is performed over the travel lanes, the department said.

The work is part of a $38.4 million project to widen 5.1 miles of I-40 to six lanes from Interstate 430 to Arkansas 365. The project is anticipated to be finished in 2016.
