Benton trio fans called for filming

FAN FARE: Triple Threat, the Benton-based singing trio that wowed judges and the audience during this season's auditions for NBC's America's Got Talent reality show, is looking for some Arkansas love.

On July 6, a Monday, a film crew from the show will visit Benton and Benton High School to capture some local footage for a home-visit feature on members Will Richey, Caleb Conrad and Tyler Davis. The three met as students while sidelined by injuries from playing on the football team, and decided to form an a cappella singing group.

The tentative schedule includes a pep rally at the football field from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and an interview on the field from 1-3 p.m. The crew then will move inside the school for filming from 3-5 p.m., with additional filming at 5 p.m. to be determined. For the filming, fans are encouraged to buy and wear T-shirts that the group is selling via its Facebook page to help offset its travel expenses.

MAKING THEIR MARK: Local tattoo artist Katie McGowan of Black Cobra Tattoos in Sherwood and her boss, studio owner Matt O'Baugh, are set to appear on the sixth season of the TV competition show, Ink Master, on the Spike cable TV channel.

The show features masters and apprentices competing against one another. McGowan's bio on the show's home page explains that she's "a fresh face with just five years of experience. Although her experience is limited, she's hoping her confidence and 'competitive personality' can help her land the title of the first female Ink Master."

Meanwhile, O'Baugh's bio reveals that he has 14 years of experience. The new season, which debuted Tuesday, pits 18 contestants against one another, vying for a feature in Inked magazine and a $100,000 prize. The show's host is Dave Navarro (of the band Jane's Addiction) and the judges are Chris Nunez (of TV's Miami Ink) and Oliver Peck (of Elm Street Tattoo in Dallas).

MUSIC MAN: Little Rock native Milo Deering, a studio musician in Dallas, is seeing a project he's worked on for the past five years -- his steel guitar work on Don Henley's country album, Cass County -- about to be released this September.

Guest artists on the album include Merle Haggard, Miranda Lambert, Mick Jagger, Martina McBride, Jamey Johnson, Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton. Henley will hold a 20-show tour to kick off the album's release, and Deering will be touring and performing with Henley. The album is named for the area of Texas where Henley was raised.

Deering's other works include writing and performing the background fiddle and guitar piece that appears in Tom Bodett's Motel 6 radio and TV spots since the late 1980s. He's also performed and toured with several well-known musicians, including LeAnn Rimes, and has appeared on several late-night shows including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman.

His older brother is John Deering, this newspaper's chief editorial cartoonist.
