Fair survives
Little Rock Fair won a cold war Tuesday night, knocking off 5A-East champion Valley View 44-43 despite hitting only 5 of 22 shots in the second half and making only 3 of 9 free throws in the fourth quarter. Valley View had a chance to win it, but the Blazers missed two free throws with 3.4 seconds remaining.
CLASS 5A GIRLS
PA tops Paragould
Senior post player Alex Otwell and sophomore guard Morgan Wallace scored 13 points each as Pulaski Academy limited defending state champion Paragould to 11 shots in the second half on its way to a 43-35 victory in the opening round.
CLASS 3A BOYS
Rivercrest wins in OT
Marquez Chews had 30 points and 13 assists to lead Rivercrest to an 82-76 overtime victory over McGehee in the opening round at Cossatot River High School. McGehee had won 46 of its past 48 games.
CLASS 1A GIRLS
Nemo Vista cruises
Kassidy Thompson hit four threepointers and scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack as defending champion Nemo Vista opened defense of its state title with an easy 59-25 victory over Caddo Hills in Nashville.
