Recipes stand out in cookbook crush

In the spring and in the fall, cookbooks start arriving on my desk faster than I have time to open and sort the packages, much less take the time to read them. Some days there are so many of them the clerks who sort our mail bring them to me in stacks or even bins.

In an effort to keep the piles from towering too high, I try to give each book a thorough once-over as soon as I open the envelope. The following are titles that caught my attention. I haven't had time to really read them, or try any of their recipes yet, but they did make it to the top of my "save and read" pile. And if you're looking for a last-minute Mother's Day gift for the cooking mom in your life, there's probably one or two on this list that would make Mom happy.
