Authorities said witnesses reported seeing Treyon Peel, 20, of Blytheville fatally shoot Raymond Smith, 21, in Smith's car in west Blytheville about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers found Smith in his vehicle at 16th and West Rose streets, said Capt. Scott Adams, commander of the Blytheville Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.

Adams said Smith's vehicle struck a utility pole at a vacant lot near the True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church. Smith was slumped inside with a gunshot wound in his chest, Adams said.

Medical personnel took Smith to the Great River Medical Center in Blytheville, where he died, according to reports.

According to police, witnesses said Smith was shot, then drove several blocks before his vehicle crashed into the utility pole. They said Peel fled, Adams said.

Anyone with information about Peel is asked to call the Blytheville Police Department at (870) 763-4411.
