Lane closures set for U.S. 82 in Ashley County

Lane closures will be required on U.S. 82 south of Hamburg in Ashley County for pavement testing later this week, Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials announced Tuesday.

Crews will test the pavement from the Hamburg city limits south to the junction of U.S. 82 and Arkansas 425, state Highway and Transportation Department spokesman Danny Straessle said in a news release.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane Thursday during daylight hours, alternating closings on the northbound and southbound lanes and shoulders, Straessle said. Traffic will be controlled using cones and flaggers.

If the pavement testing isn't complete, closings will continue Friday, the release states.

The testing is part of a proposal to widen U.S. 82 and Arkansas 425 to four lanes between Hamburg and the Louisiana state line, Straessle said.
