Arts Center chief praises auxiliary groups' teamwork

There was a peaceful transfer of presidential powers inside the lecture hall of the Arkansas Arts Center on May 18 as immediate Fine Arts Club past president Rachael Reid handed responsibility and prerogative over to president Julie Tabor.

(It should be said that, in 102 years of arts center governance, there has never been a violent coup.)

Arts Center Director Todd Herman thanked the club for its support throughout the year, including its support of other Arts Center auxiliaries. He specifically pointed out that the club bought $500 worth of Fountain Fest tickets from the Contemporaries, a younger upstart.

"I really love the fact that the different auxiliary groups of the Arkansas Arts Center are working together," he said.

New president Tabor said her primary focus will be to increase membership and giving.

"Several new sponsorship opportunities" -- specifically a Children's Theater sponsorship -- "have been presented to us by the Arkansas Arts Center, and we will be voting on these at our next Board meeting."

All three of the Fine Arts Club's trailblazing male board members -- Aaron Perkins, Todd Bagwell and Don Deaton -- were in attendance, as was the club's 89-year-old materfamilias Jeane Hamilton and the Arts Center's board chairman, Chucki Bradbury.
