MAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Leukemia, lymphoma fundraisers are honored

Mitch Bobo of Hope and Nadine Baxter of Little Rock were named Man and Woman of the Year on May 14 at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Grand Finale Celebration held at the Clinton Presidential Center.

Candidates compete in a friendly competition for 10 weeks as they raise money for blood cancer research. Bobo raised $35,000 and Baxter raised more than $46,000 for the society. About $137,000 was raised in total.

The candidates compete in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy and, this year, two Girls of the Year. They are Breya, Dalton and Teecumpsy. The four others competing for Man and Woman of the Year were Tamyra Cody, Colin Hall, Lindsey Walt and Romerse Biddle. The winners were the ones who raised the most money.

The evening included an opening reception, silent and live auctions, dinner and the announcement of the winners.

The money raised will stay in Arkansas and help blood cancer patients with support and financial aid. Some will go toward the research campaign nationally, says Kim DuPas, the society's Arkansas manager.
