LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is defending his opposition to relocating any Syrian refugees in the state, arguing there's not a strong enough vetting process before they enter the country.
Hutchinson said Tuesday that there aren't any plans to relocate any Syrian refugees in the state but said he'll ask the state Department of Human Services to resist efforts to move any to Arkansas. Hutchinson and a number of other GOP governors Monday said they'd oppose the refugees in the wake of last week's attacks in Paris.
Hutchinson, a former federal Homeland Security undersecretary, spoke ahead of a conference call set up among the White House and the nation's governors.
The governor said that since many refugees will arrive without documentation, he is concerned there won't be adequate background checks.
