Comments from Watt draw ire

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt’s statements following Monday’s victory over Cincinnati didn’t sit well with Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt’s statements following Monday’s victory over Cincinnati didn’t sit well with Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.

JJ Watt was in a celebratory mood after his Houston Texans beat the previously undefeated Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

Watt and the Texans held the Bengals' offense to two field goals in a 13-6 victory at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

After the game, Watt had fun at Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton's expense.

"Our goal was to come out here and make the Red Rifle look like a Red Ryder BB gun," Watt told ESPN. "And I think we did that tonight."

Dalton completed 22 of 38 passes for 197 yards and 1 interception as the Bengals fell to 8-1. He wasn't happy with Watt's comments.

"Disappointing for one of the best players in this league to come out and say something like that," Dalton said.

Houston (4-5) is tied for the AFC South lead, while Cincinnati leads the AFC North. So, there is a chance that the two teams could meet again in the AFC playoffs in January.

The Texans are 2-0 against the Bengals in the playoffs, winning wild-card round games in 2011 and 2012.

Ouch

Former NFL player Champ Bailey is the latest player to take a shot at former quarterback Tim Tebow.

Bailey and Tebow were teammates with the Denver Broncos in 2011. When he appeared on Colin Cowherd's radio show on Fox on Tuesday, Bailey recalled a practice story involving Tebow, saying the Broncos coaches told defenders to take it easy on Tebow in practice.

"Tebow. Prime example," Bailey told Cowherd. "He just didn't look good in practice. He was not great in practice. When you tell the scout team to back off a guy, let him make some plays, let him make some throws, that's not a good practice player.

"Most players in practice want to be challenged like it's a game."

Bailey added that Tebow was a better runner than a passer.

"Obviously we know in this league you can't succeed very long as a running quarterback. You have to know how to pass. We tried to enable that and help him along, but when it was game time, you didn't know what to expect because he didn't practice well all week."

They said it

From Brad Dickson of the Omaha World-Herald:

• "Ameer Abdullah returned a kickoff 104 yards to help Detroit upset Green Bay. It's the biggest play in his career that didn't involve McNeese State."

• "Bill Snyder wrote a letter to Kansas State students apologizing for the 55-0 loss to Oklahoma earlier this season. You know the result if the Kansas coach wrote a letter after every lopsided defeat? Writer's cramp."

• "UCLA freshman quarterback Josh Rosen has been told he can't keep a hot tub in his dorm room. Oh, great, now how is a kid supposed to get through a semester?"

From Frank Schwab of Yahoo! Sports

• On the San Francisco 49ers: "The worst thing for the 49ers is them winning just enough down the stretch that the front office starts thinking things like, 'Maybe Blaine Gabbert would be a nice option to start in 2016!' "

• On the Pittsburgh Steelers: "I really wanted to see emergency quarterback Heath Miller have to take some snaps on Sunday."
