A 39-year-old Lonoke man has been arrested in the death of his girlfriend's 11-month-old son.

Lonoke Police Department Interim Chief Randy Mauk said Brian Keith Raybon is being held on a preliminary charge of capital murder.

Mauk said officers responded to a call at a home on East 4th Street early Sunday morning and found an "unresponsive child" who had "evidence of trauma" on his body.

The boy was taken to a North Little Rock hospital, where he died a short time later.

Mauk said Raybon, whom he described as the mother's live-in boyfriend, told investigators he had been playing and wrestling with the child when the injuries occurred. Mauk said the mother provided a "different account," though he said he couldn't go into specifics.

"Not at this point," Mauk said. "We're still trying to build our case."

Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobbs said the boy's body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy to determine the cause of the death.

Raybon was being held Monday morning without bail at the Lonoke city jail. A first court appearance was set for Tuesday.
