At least 8 injured in Heber Springs football bus crash

A crash involving a bus carrying Heber Springs High School football players left at least eight people injured early Saturday morning, Arkansas State Police said.

Following a Friday evening football game in Stuttgart, the bus struck a deer on Arkansas 5, north of Rose Bud, and ran off the right side of the highway. The bus was airborne "before the vehicle came to rest in a deep ditch," said Kenny Miller with Arkansas State Police Troop B dispatch.

Six people were transported to Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs, two minors were taken to White County Medical Center and one minor was airlifted to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Miller said.

Troop B dispatch initially said a total of nine people were injured while Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler listed eight injured.

"None of the injuries were initially reported to be life threatening," Sadler said in an email.
