2 named Arkansas' Officers of the Year for river rescue

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Two Arkansas Game and Fish Commission officers are the state's 2015 Officers of the Year.

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge hosted the ceremony Wednesday at Camp Robinson where Sgt. Ben Sisk and Officer Billy Williams were honored for saving three people from the flooded Arkansas River.

The three were in a pontoon boat near a flood gate when Sisk and Williams asked that the gate be closed, giving them two minutes to tow the boat to safety before the water began spilling over the gate.

Tributes were presented to the widow of Johnson County reserve deputy Sonny Smith, who was killed while searching for a burglary suspect, and to Little Rock police dog Titus, who died of heat exhaustion after searching for a suspect.
