Depression Screenings

SEARCY/NEWPORT — As part of National Depression Screening Day, Unity Health and the Dr. Robert E. Elliot Foundation will offer free, anonymous depression screenings from noon to 4 p.m. on Unity Health’s White County Medical Center campus in Searcy and on the Harris Medical Center campus in Newport. Screenings will include written evaluations, access to a licensed professional counselor and referrals. Tea Party Meeting

AARP Smart Driver Safety Class

HORSESHOE BEND — An AARP Smart Driver Safety Class will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Horseshoe Bend Library. The class costs $15 for AARP members who present an AARP card and $20 for nonmembers. Participants ages 55 and older who complete the course will be eligible for a three-year discount on their auto-insurance premiums in Arkansas. Gallery Reception

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will hold an opening reception for a group exhibition titled Friends of the Batesville Area Arts Council from 5-7 p.m. at the BAAC Gallery on Main, 226 E. Main St. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on display through Nov. 14.

OktoberFest at the Bay

FAIRFIELD BAY — OktoberFest will take place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, with local arts and crafts offered for sale until 6 p.m. German food, music and dance will round out the day. On Saturday, the festival will open at 9 a.m. and feature Thunder in the Bay, a motorcycle rally sponsored by the Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a Volkswagen Show and Shine until 5 p.m.; and an OktoberFest celebration and dance, with an oom-pah-pah band playing from 7-10 p.m. All performances will be at the Fairfield Bay Conference and Visitor Center, 110 Lost Creek Parkway.

Leslie Mountain Man Rendezvous

LESLIE — The fourth annual Leslie Mountain Man Rendezvous will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The re-enactment will focus on the period before 1840. StoryFest at the Bay

FAIRFIELD BAY — The city’s sixth annual StoryFest, suitable for all ages, will be held Saturday and feature Sean Buvala and Minton Sparks. Morning storyteller sessions will begin at 9:30, and afternoon sessions at 1:30. StoryFest tickets cost $10 in advance or $15 at the door. To order tickets, call (501) 884-4202. 18th Benton Family Reunion

SEARCY — The 18th Benton Family Reunion, for descendants of John Washington Benton and Rachel Burkett Benton, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carmichael Community Center, 800 S. White County Daylily Society Sale

Pancake Breakfast

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast from 6-10 a.m. in the Cabot First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children 10 and younger. Carryout orders will be available. The club will accept used eyeglasses for recycling. Proceeds will be used to provide vision services for Cabot-area residents.

Ghosts of Davidsonville Fall Festival

POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park’s annual fall festival, Ghosts of Davidsonville, will be held from 5-9 p.m. at the park. The festival will feature live music, food, games and a haunted hayride. The entry fee is $3 for adults, and $2 for children and for adult 62 and older. Children younger than 5 will be admitted free. Heber Springs Dulcimer Day

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast from 6-10 a.m. in the Cabot First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Chili Cook-off

PANGBURN — The Pangburn High School Band will hold its eighth annual Chili Cook-off and Dessert Auction from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Pangburn High School. Tickets are $5. The senior Pangburn band, choir and jazz band will give a free performance at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Funds raised will be used to purchase band instruments. A Christmas Story Auditions

SEARCY — Auditions for roles in A Christmas Story will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday and at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Center on the Square theater. All materials will be provided. There are roles for two adult males, two adult females, five young boys and two young girls, plus numerous extra children. Performance dates are Dec. 4-6, 11-13 and 18-20. The play will be directed by Sophia Fuller and Caroline Walker.

Tri the Lake Triathlon

HEBER SPRINGS — The Tri the Lake Trathlon will be held from 6-11:45 a.m. at Sandy Beach. The triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim, a 13-mile bicycle ride and a 3.4-mile run.

Knights of Columbus Council Open House

HORSESHOE BEND — Knights of Columbus Council 10493 will hold an open house for the public at 5:30 p.m. on the lower level of St. Mary of the Mount Church on the corner of First and Church streets. Snacks will be served.

Angel Tree Applications

BATESVILLE — The United Way of North Central Arkansas is accepting applications for its Angel Tree Program, which provides eligible children with Christmas gifts. Parents/guardians may pick up applications from the Department of Human Services, 100 Weaver Ave., or the United Way office in the First Community Bank building, Southside Branch, at 1 Allen Chapel Road. Completed applications are due Oct. 30. To be eligible for the program, children must be ages 2-10 and living in the home listed; and the household must be a participant in S.N.A.P. (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program). Names will be available to purchase gifts for the Angels from Nov. 17 through Dec. 7. ASH FLAT — Ozarka College’s Continuing Education program will offer a month-long series of computer workshops, A Trek Through Tech 2.0, taught by Kelly Shell, from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays.
