Wynne grinds it out against Valley View

WYNNE -- Wynne scored the game's first four touchdowns and coasted to a 28-14 victory over Valley View Friday night at Yellowjacket Stadium.

Wynne (3-3, 3-0 5A-East) scored on its first two possessions, then added scores in the second and third quarters to build a 28-0 lead.

Wynne finished with 314 yards of total offense, 259 of those on the ground.

Valley View (1-5, 1-2) gained 184 of its 204 yards on the ground, with 143 of those yards coming in the second half.

Wynne junior running back Jamar Dixon rushed 22 times for 112 yards, including touchdown runs of 8 and 16 yards. Junior Devontae Pounds added 78 yards rushing and 35 receiving while sophomore quarterback Luke Chapman added 18 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He completed 3 of 3 passes for 55 yards.

Senior Kyler Carpenter rushed 17 times for 66 yards and scored both of Valley View's late touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Joseph Walezonia carried 13 times by 87 yards on 13 carries.

Wynne committed the game's only turnovers, losing two fumbles.

Pounds opened the scoring when he caught a 35-yard scoring pass from Chapman open down the middle of the field with 7:51 remaining in the first quarter. That ended a 5-play, 52-yard drive that lasted 2:01.

The Yellowjackets scored on their next possession after forcing Valley View into a three and out when Chapman scored on a 10-yard quarterback bootleg to give Wynne a 14-0 lead with 3:37 left in the first quarter.

Dixon scored the first of his two touchdown with 10:22 to play before halftime when he rushed in on a first and goal from the 8. That completed a 50-yard scoring drive that covered seven plays after another Valley View punt.

Dixon's second score came on a 16-yard run on fourth and 1 with 45 seconds left in the third quarter to give Wynne a 28-0 lead.

Carpenter scored both of Valley Views touchdowns in the final seven minutes.

BLYTHEVILLE 53, GREENE COUNTY TECH 26

BLYTHEVILLE — Demekko Clark rushed for a school-record 431 yards and five touchdowns as Blytheville (4-2, 2-1 5A-East) beat Greene County Tech (1-5, 0-3).

BATESVILLE 41, FORREST CITY 12

FORREST CITY — Senior Louis Sonnier rushed for two touchdowns to help Batesville (4-2, 3-0) defeat Forrest City (4-2, 2-1) in a showdown between 5A-East conference leaders. Batesville junior Kylan Robinson returned a kickoff 74 yards in the first quarter after the Mustangs had scored first on a 20-yard run by Trajan Norment, who also caught a touchdown pass. Sonnier followed up Robinson’s return with a 10-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. He and sophomore Trey Ford each rushed for scores in the second quarter as Batesville built a 27-6 halftime lead.
