Mark Spitzer, associate professor of creative writing at the University of Central Arkansas, editor-in-chief of the Toad Suck Review and water-monster chronicler, will read selected passages and sign copies of his 22nd book, Garapaima: A Monster Fish Novel, 7 p.m. today at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 W. Tyler St., Conway.

Hip-hop & horror

Detroit duo Twiztid (Jamie Madrox and Monoxide), whose act is a concoction of hardcore hip-hop, rock, horror cinema and theatrical styling, will perform at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Revolution Music Room, 300 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.

Documentary I

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock department of music and office of campus life will sponsor the screening of the documentary The Wrecking Crew at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, Fine Arts Building, UALR, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. The film focuses on a group of studio musicians who called themselves the Wrecking Crew and performed on many of the hits in the '60s and '70s. Filmmaker Denny Tedesco will also present an informal background talk about the making of the film at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the concert hall. Admission to the screening and talk are free. Documentary II

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen the 2007 HBO documentary Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on the museum's second floor, part of its "Movies at MacArthur" series.

The documentary, which has adult language and adult content (parental discretion is advised), surveys the physical and emotional costs of war through memories of wounded veterans' "alive day," the day they narrowly escaped death in Iraq. El Dorado winner

The Bespoke Tailoring of Mister Bellamy, directed by Alexander Jeffrey of El Dorado, won the top prize, $50,000 cash, in the 2015 Louisiana Film Prize Festival, Oct. 4 in Shreveport. The festival's top five films will receive iTunes distribution and film festival appearances around the country.
