Batesville students killed in crash identified

Speed, wet pavement cited in report Police: Road wet, vehicle going fast

Two students from Batesville High School were killed in a car crash late Monday night, and four others were injured, police said Tuesday.

Authorities said six teenage boys were traveling fast in a 2014 Ford Mustang along McHue Road, 4 miles south of Batesville, when the car became airborne, left the roadway and hit a tree. It was raining at the time, and the pavement was wet, according to an accident report.

Two teens died in the crash, the state police report said, and the four injured were taken to White River Medical Center in Batesville. None were named in the report because of their ages.

Glen Willis of the Independence County office of emergency services identified the youths who were killed as Camdon Osborn and Will Olson.

Independence County Sheriff Steve Jeffery said the two, and at least some of the injured, were students at Batesville High School. The addresses listed for two of the teenagers in the car were in nearby towns, he said.

Jeffrey said the 15-year-old driver of the Mustang was not killed in the crash.

The Independence County sheriff's office community relations Facebook page identified the injured youths as Will Davis, Reagan Paul, Cole Taylor and Alex Gilmore.

Olson, Osborn, Paul and Gilmore are listed on Batesville's football team roster. Davis and Taylor are not listed as playing for Batesville's varsity team.

Attempts to reach Batesville football Coach Dave King were unsuccessful Tuesday.

Batesville High School Principal David Campbell did not confirm any details but said there had been a "tragedy" within the school community.

The school had a professional development day and parent teacher conferences Tuesday, and students were not on campus, Campbell said.
